Music Industry Panel at WHC

The college where I studied for my HND in music hosted a panel of music industry professionals. The 2 hour panel covered topics such as professionalism and the future of the industry from the perspectives of promoters, managers, artists and session musicians. Most Notable pundits on the Artist side being from well known bands like You Me At Six, Sikth and Lower Than Atlantis. The talk was very enlightening and allowed me to experience different perspectives on music not just as an art form or business, but as a medium with a responsibility towards its consumers. Above all its painted a clearer picture of the level that everyone must constantly strive towards to keep an industry struggling with the new wave of technologies and self-sufficiency open to those who would contribute. Particularly useful was the highlighting of mistakes that each of the panel had made in the past that had shaped their careers to this point. Being able to learn from these without experiencing these pitfalls for ourselves is definitely an advantage not many will have.
